He performs in groups such as Sc’ööf, Julius Amber and We are old, and collaborates with artists including Gerry Hemingway, Julian Sartorius, Florian Stoffner, Tony Buck, Hans Koch, Thomas Lehn, Christian Weber and Jasper Stadhouders; with these projects he has given numerous concerts across Europe and appeared at international festivals. Elio Amberg (*1990, Switzerland; he/him) is a saxophonist, bass clarinetist and electronic musician based between Basel and Berlin. Working in the fields of improvisation and composition, his practice focuses on rhythmic structures, extended playing techniques and the shaping of free tonal material, continuously exploring the boundaries between acoustic and electronic sound. His playing is marked by precision, physical intensity and a strong sense of form, unfolding in contexts that range from solo performance to long-term collaborative work.
He is active in projects such as Sc’ööf and Julius Amber and performs regularly in duo and trio settings within the international improvisation scene. His work has been presented at festivals and concert series across Europe, and he has received several recognitions in recent years, including the Zenith Award of the European Jazz Network and the ZKB Jazz Prize with Sc’ööf, as well as multi-year support from the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia.
Emerging from overlapping artistic contexts and shared approaches to sound and structure, the transdisciplinary project kontrollør reflects an ongoing interest in expanding musical performance into spatial and performative dimensions. This line of work is also informed by his involvement in collective formats such as the Lucerne-based platform Club Dänemark, where collaborative and experimental practices are developed across disciplines.

Er arbeitet in den Bereichen Improvisation und Komposition mit einem Fokus auf rhythmische Strukturen, erweiterte Spieltechniken und die Gestaltung frei-tonaler Materialien, wobei er kontinuierlich die Grenzen zwischen akustischem und elektronischem Klang auslotet. Sein Spiel ist geprägt von Präzision, physischer Intensität und einem ausgeprägten Formbewusstsein und entfaltet sich in Kontexten, die von Soloformaten bis hin zu langfristigen kollaborativen Projekten reichen.
Er ist in Projekten wie Sc’ööf und Julius Amber aktiv und tritt regelmässig in Duo- und Triobesetzungen innerhalb der internationalen Improvisationsszene auf.
